Just as the offseason kicked off in mid February, Durde was hired to become the Seattle Seahawks’ new defensive coordinator, becoming the first British coordinator in NFL history. Durde’s first exposure to the NFL came in 2005 when – as part of the NFL International Development Practice Squad program, an early predecessor to the IPP – he spent some time on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers. He spent three seasons as part of the Falcons’ defensive coaching staff, working across a number of roles under head coach Dan Quinn. His permanent hiring in 2018 meant Durde became the first British full-time coach in NFL history. Under Durde’s stewardship, Dallas’ defensive line developed into one of the most feared in the league, in particular star linebacker Micah Parsons.

The Washington Commanders have an agreement with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to hire him as coach, according to two people with knowledge of the decision. Quinn, 53, spent the past three seasons running the defense for the NFC East-rival Cowboys after five-plus seasons coaching the Atlanta Falcons. Quinn coached the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016 before being fired after an 0-5 start in 2020. He became Washington’s choice after Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, considered a top candidate, told teams Tuesday he was staying with Detroit and the Seahawks hired Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Macdonald going to Seattle made Quinn the front-runner, and he got the job over the likes of Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Baltimore assistant Anthony Weaver.

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has decided to stay with the team and turn down potential opportunities to be an NFL head coach next season, leading the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks to turn to other candidates. Two people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Johnson informed teams he would not be leaving the Lions. One of the people familiar with the situation said the Washington brass is still meeting with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Their 34-31 loss to San Francisco on Sunday paved the way for teams to hire Johnson or Glenn. It’s unclear if they’ll pivot to former Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel, their own offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy or someone else after missing out on the opportunity to hire Johnson.

CNN —Coaching vacancies continue to be filled around the NFL, as the Atlanta Falcons announced on Wednesday that Raheem Morris had been hired as head coach of the organization, while the Carolina Panthers named Dave Canales as their new head coach. Kyusung Gong/APIn replacing Arthur Smith in Atlanta, Morris becomes the first full-time Black head coach in franchise history, per the Falcons. “I am overjoyed for the opportunity for my family and I to return to Atlanta as the Falcons head coach,” Morris said in a statement, where he also thanked McVay and the Rams. He served as offensive quality coach, assistant quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator between 2010 and 2022. He will be the first former Chargers player to return to the team as head coach. The Chargers are the fourth of eight teams to fill their head coach job, following New England, Las Vegas and Tennessee. Manuel may promote Sherrone Moore to replace Harbaugh after the offensive coordinator filled in for him during the final three games of the regular season. Embattled Republican Rep. George Santos of New York took a step Tuesday toward a possible bid for a second term in the House, where he is currently under investigation. Santos' campaign filed a statement of candidacy for the 2024 election cycle with the Federal Election Commission, a move that could signal the freshman lawmaker's intent to run for reelection. After winning his seat, the New York Times reported that Santos appeared to have fabricated key details of his background. Joseph Murray, a lawyer for Santos' campaign, could not confirm whether the congressman was indeed seeking reelection. Santos was sworn into Congress under a cloud of scandal earlier this year, after the bombshell New York Times report questioned key details about his personal and professional life.

One of those was the political arm of the Campaign Legal Center, a prominent DC watchdog group. Insider has learned that Bankman-Fried's donations funded more than 90% of the political arm in 2021. Bankman-Fried donated $760,000 to the Campaign Legal Center's action fund in 2021, according to a spokesperson for the organization. Insider previously reported that Bankman-Fried donated more than $2.5 million to the Campaign Legal Center and its affiliate organizations since 2021. Under its action group, the Campaign Legal Center filed a number of prominent lawsuits in 2021.

The Campaign Legal Center fights against lawlessness and unethical behavior in politics. Brendan Quinn, a spokesperson for the Campaign Legal Center, says the nonprofit organization cannot return or give away Bankman-Fried's money because the money is already spent. Asked whether the Campaign Legal Center would consider disgorging an amount of money equivalent to what Bankman-Fried contributed, Quinn noted that the Campaign Legal Center is not a political candidate or committee. The Campaign Legal Center has not yet provided Insider a copy, first requested December 2, of the most recent IRS 990 tax document filed by Campaign Legal Center Action, its advocacy arm. Former President Donald Trump has been a frequent target of the Campaign Legal Center's legal and ethics efforts.
